War on Acne (&Wrinkles): Jan Marini Age Intervention Regeneration Facial Mask....

Posted By Josi ~ Mar 30, 2010 3:31PM

marinimask-w500-h500 I've been SO meaning to tell you about Jan Marini's Age Intervention Regeneration Facial Mask ($90)....this little wonder uses a combo of Kaolin (yes, it's clay-based), Glycolic Acid and the powerful (and expensive) antioxidant Resveratrol to bring reveal new fresh skin without the irritation.

I was kind of weary at first...I thought for sure a clay-based mask would irritate my crazy skin...but I was pleasantly surprised. My skin felt smooth and soothed. So soothed in fact that several "suspicious" looking lumps were "soothed" away...Age Intervention? I call it "Zit Intervention"...

I guess I should have used it last week (speaking of zits). Might not have gone crawling to my derm yesterday to get the biggest of the monsters on my face injected with cortisone (yes, really)...

The best part? I WON Jan Marini's Age Intervention Regeneration Facial Mask just by reading (and commenting on) one of my favorite beauty blogs, Mythbuster Beauty. Thanks Jen, you ROCK!

Beauty Review: Erno Laszlo Absolute Finish Foundation SPF 15

Posted By Josi ~ Feb 1, 2010 4:19PM
med-10-614969111822-absolute-finish-spf-15Calling all EL devotees...If you haven't tried Erno Laszlo's Absolute Finish Foundation SPF 15($47) yet, your skin will thank you. This light-as-air mousse gives medium-to-full coverage without caking up into fine lines and wrinkles. I repeat. Great coverage without caking into fine lines and wrinkles.

I recommend this for my clients who are on the dry side since the only down side I noticed was a tad bit more shine at the end of the day.

What's your favorite new foundation? Anything I need to know about?

Beauty Review: Peter Thomas Roth Unwrinkle Peel Pads

Posted By Josi ~ Jan 19, 2010 4:15PM
2149689Been meaning to tell you about these bad boys. Peter Thomas Roth's Unwrinkle Peel Pads use glycolic acids and other goodies to lessen fine lines and help clear and heal acne scars quicker...and they do. For a really good price. You get 6o for only $45 bucks!

I swipe it on after I wash my face and let it marinate while I use my Sonicare for 2 minutes every other day or so. Bonus, there is enough juice to get the backs of your hands or cleavage in the summer. (oh Summer! Where are you now?).......

What's your favorite daily peel right now?

Beauty Review: Elizabeth Arden Prevage Day Ultra Protection Anti-aging Moisturizer SPF 30

Posted By Josi ~ Jan 12, 2010 2:46PM
pelizarden1-6651601v250

Hola my beauties...Remember when I told you all about the benefits of Idebenone (and why you need it..)? I've been using Elizabeth Arden's Prevage Ultra Protection Anti-aging Moisturizer SPF 30 for a few weeks now...MAJOR diff in my skin.

This ultra hydrating moisturizer has a lovely citrus scent and has really kept my flakies at bay (even now with the heat going on high 24-7 )....the SPF 30 is super micronized so there is no irritation or annoying film.  I'm happy to report to you that it has caused no new breakouts and that this potion has kept my dark spots at bay.

Luckily, a little dab'll do ya making the price tag a tad easier to swallow (gulp) at $125.  If you've jumped on the Prevage bandwagon before, this one is worth splurging on...(and if you do they are giving away a $100 gwp and free shipping on any Prevage purchase)...

Lipage Alert: Erno Lazlo TranspHuge Lip pHixative

Posted By Josi ~ Jan 7, 2010 2:20PM
lrg-71-614969395048-transphuse-lip-phixativeLipage Alert from Erno Lazlo! I love, love their TranspHuse Lip pHixative Anti-Aging Lip Plumper ($50). I've never been a real believer in the whole "lip plumper" phenom but I swear this stuff works. Not only does it taste delicious, it won't sting like other lip plumpers. Plus, you use it as a treatment so you don't have to limit your lip color options.

The only bummer is that sometimes the roller ball applicator sticks. If you are "lip person" (you know who you are) than this is worth the change.

Be Beautiful (and stay warm) Y'all....

Happy New Year's Eve beautiful people! So I'll take another glass of "Oops" please....I know, I know. I'm announcing  the winner of my Youth Corridor giveaway ( a Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum $145 and Gentle Moisturizer w/ Green Tea $35) a TAD bit late, but here she is......

Miss Boom  says, "I am going to exercise, eat healthy and get lots of sleep. Oh, and moisturize like crazy."

Sounds like a pretty well-paved path, Miss Boom...and if any pot holes show up, there's nothing like a good antioxidant to patch it up..(ha-ha, sorry you know I can't help myself). Be sure to let us know what you think of the Youth Corridor  after you've been on it a while, doll!

I-O,I-O it's off to EXFOLIATE I go!!!....YBF Prep Microdermabrasion Scrub

Hot off the presses! So hot, in fact I can't find any photos of the product yet. Introducing Your Best Face Skincare's latest baby, Prep Microdermabrasion Scrub $80).  I know you can't see the text with my crappy camera but I thought maybe you'd like my model (Ruby, 5). The kids are home for Holiday Break so I'm getting TONS of help around the house (as you can imagine..lol)!

ybf-014

(it's the orange cream you're lookin' for....pay no attention to the rest of that crap)

So YES, my house is kind of a mess right now..but that's besides the point!  YBF's Prep is a rich, creamy way to exfoliate all that winter flakiness while leaving the skin soft and smooth. After a little rub down with Prep your serums and creams gain effectiveness and makeup goes on like a dream.

I was totally impressed with the granules in the scrub, small enough to get "traction" but smooth enough not to cause any irritation to my already kinda angry skin....And the scent? Let's just say citrus heaven...(Origins gals take note).

You can check out other Your Best Face goodies at their website or at The Skincare Shop.

Share the Love: Join me on the Youth Corridor....

Happy Monday my beauties...Remember last week when I told you about Youth Corridor skincare? Well, I'd like to invite one of you to take that journey with me!  Let's both try and compare our results with two of famed plastic surgeon Gerald Imber's latest products. One lucky winner will receive Youth Corridor's Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum ($145) and the Gentle Moisturizer with Green Tea ($35).

Now, what I need from you is a valid email address and the answer to this question in the comments:

What route are YOU going to take when it comes to your own aging beauty? Will you do fancy creams only? Or will you do injections but no cutting?  Do you even really care? (you get my drift, right?)...

Can't WAIT to read your answers (and draw a random winner this Friday, December 25...Oh geez...that's Xmas)!

Beauty Rant: I'm taking the Youth Corridor...

Posted By Josi ~ Dec 17, 2009 3:29PM

getting_older ( FINALLY, someone wrote the book....)

So when it comes to "Adventures in Aging" I'll take the Youth Corridor. I'm not ashamed to admit it (anymore)...As a makeup artist who writes a beauty blog, you'd think I'd fully embraced my romance with vanity...but not so much.  Last night I had an AHA! moment...Yes, I AM "going that route". There's nothing wrong with working to preserve what your maker gave ya!  There's a balance to strike between caring about the outside AND inside. Everything in moderation, right?

If  I've learned anything these last 15 years of painting ALL kinds of beautiful faces it's that FEELING pretty is actually just as important as BEING pretty (actually "pretty" is "pretty" subjective, pun intended)...So if  the latest and greatest potion or cream will help you get there, SO BE IT!

img12

So what's one of the latest and greatest ingredients in the "War on Aging" Skin? It's Melatonin....yes, that supplement you can buy at the health food store to get a better nights' sleep! Melatonin is actually a powerful antioxidant that increases the skin's absorption of other antioxidants (including Vitamin C & E, notoriously big molecules that are hard for the skin to absorb).

Melatonin is a key ingredient in famed plastic surgeon Gerald Imber's Youth Corridor skincare line. As soon as I read about it in this months Allure magazine, I knew I had to try it. Dr. Imber also recently updated his book, The NEW Youth Corridor (I read it)...a great guide for those folks new to the "War on Aging".

I'll be test driving Youth Corridor's Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum ($195) as well as the Gentle Moisturizer with Green Tea ($35)...Will that serum be worth the HIGH price tag? We'll see my beauties, we'll see.....

Have you taken a trek down the Youth Corridor? Do tell....
